1970s A photograph
taken by Gavin Bamford in the 1970s showing the site of the former Dundonald
station. The platforms stretching out to the west are still intact though
somewhat overgrown. They have been removed behind the photographer as the
embankment was cutback to improve the sight lines at the junction of the Old
Dundonald Road and Comber Road. The wall to the right is at the top of the
stairway to the Comber Road. This is the way I
remember the station when going with my Mum to Robinson’s grocery shop on the
Comber Road. Climbing up and down the ruins of the platforms with little legs,
I always wondered what had once been here… The dark hole of the subway at the
bottom of the stairs to the Comber Road was another intriguing mystery and it
was much to my disappointment when it was blocked up before I could explore
it! |
